Babs at her best with full orchestra singing romantic songs with her now mature voice. Love it, especially the song “Where Do You Begin” about picking up the pieces after you’ve loved and lost. If you’re at all a romantic, like myself, you’ll love this CD.

Ms. Streisand’s work has so been such an infrequent disappointment, disappointment is overall a miniscule word to define this once in a lifetime artist. Her work, in jazz (“Cry Me A River”, for example) was the type of jazz I had hoped this recording would exude. However, this particular CD is more along the lines of jazz you hear at an relaxing fine dining restaurant with a mellow jazz band as background music vs a jazz club.
While it is not my style of jazz (I found every song sounded too similar to each other with the exception of “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”), it is exactly right on for the venue and audience she performed it live for. This CD’s lyrics also suit the title and would, in essence, make quite nice background music for a dinner party. To me, Ms. Streisand’s exceptional voice and ability to work with orchestrations and make them stand out, places her talent beyond ‘background’ music. As a result, I found this CD disappointing and simultaneously worth one (unfortunately, painful) listen to.
It was probably a wonderful collection of songs for her live performance at the Village Vanguard and does what it says but, just under ok unless you really enjoy extremely slow, repetative jazz for the lyrics and informal listening to this remarkable talent.

we have grown up listening to miss streisand from the start. we own many of her albums and have always thought that she was the greatest singer of all time.but things change and sometimes not for the best. we were so very disappointed in her latest album and thought that it was not her best showing. maybe age has something to do with the process, but it was one of her worst yet. we don’t even listen to it multiple times like the older, better ones. sorry barbara but maybe if you get off that pedestal…….

CD arrived in stated (like new) condition, and promptly. She doesn’t hit the same high notes as she did 40 years ago, but the voice, as well as the delivery, are still right there. Barbara does not lose it.
