Peter Carroll and David Noble have written a brilliant book dealing with the founding and development of the Americas. This book opens the readers eyes and suggests many things that a learner of American history through the standard text book are deprived. I have also been privileged to be enrolled in one of Professor Nobles American Studies courses in which he had me constantly thinking about, questioning and searching for the truth of American history and development.

Although European expansion was the driving force that first opened up the frontier land called America, the growth of the new nation would be forged over the centuries by the diverse peoples who stuggled to make it their home. But not everyone who made a home in the country that carved democracy out of tyranny was accepted as a full American citizen – when the democratic, humanitarian principles were re-tested by the native Americans, Blacks, immigrants, religious minorities and women, these principles were too often found wanting. This book documents the relationship between these “outgroups” and the power-holders as it examines the social, cultural, political and economic development of the US.
Solid start, undermined by 20th Century Pie in the Skying – jonathan hedgpeth –
This book started out phenomenaly. And really I’m not trying to down this book, I encourage any student of history to read it, however I just felt that the way inwhich the 20th Century was dealt with was suspect and haphazard. It is a fast paced read so every sentences counts. I felt it was a great overview of 18th and 19th Century America. Yet late in the work these two authors begin to operate in theoretical conjecture that I feel is a bit much. If anything I hope that History in the future will better concentrate on the qualitative experience of the individual in history, instead of making sweaping generalizations that reflect little of individual experience and seem to provide more fodder for theoretical feuds. I was suprised by this, because the premise of the work seems leftist in principle, yet doesn’t stick to this theme passionatly. Never the less I feel too much of americana is made claim to in this work as justification for the authors grand themes where other aspects of American history is ignored. For instance the use of the ideals of The Beat Poets as exemplifying a growing perpensity for Americans to find a new frontier within them selves and a looking westward from San Francisco to the East logicaly meant an embrace of Eastern Religion. He’s put two and two together and quickly got four ‘cept it isen’t four. There was a great deal more. He states that the Beat poets were a product of the de-sanctification of land and uses the disintegration of taboos about death to jutify this paradigm shift–quoting all the while Ginsberg and Corso, but ignores the chief Beat Jack Keroauc who viewed the ‘Road’ the American continent as all holy as an Existentialist tapestry of places and faces that was all sacred…why..because it existed. Too much Pie in the Sky, but its good until the Progressive era.

I ordered the Pulsonic from Amazon about a week ago. I’d already purchased one at my local pharmacy — total bill for the toothbrush and a set of replacement heads was 6. Amazon price: ! So back to the drug store I went….
This is a great toothbrush so far. I had a few years old Sonicare and I find the Pulsonic to be as powerful and easy to use, but in a much more elegant package. The two speed mode is nice and easy to operate. The brush head has been safe and secure with no evidence that it could come off as some report. While I agree with those who would like to have a travel case, this brush fits easily into a plastic sandwich bag. Overall a great purchase experience and a very good product so far. BTW, like the Sonicare, the Pulsonic can be used in the shower — to quote the user manual — “without hesitation.” Nice!

I’ve had the Pulsonic over a month now. It’s my first sonic brush and my teeth were a wee bit sensitive at first, but I got over it.
The Pulsonic replacement brushes are more affordable than most, which was one of the factors into my purchase decision. In addition, it runs SO long on a battery charge, it’s just amazing. The 30 second timer to move to another quadrant to brush is a nice feature. Not to mention the mail-in rebate that was available when I purchased – now expired but check the Oral-B website to see if there is anything new.
I still miss my Interplak with rotary head that lasted me 15 years before the battery couldn’t hold a charge anymore & brushes were near impossible to find. I wish they were still making the Interplak but the Pulsonic is a good replacement, even though it’s not a rotary head brush.

I had the Oral B Vitality Sonic and the batteries became more difficult to locate. Didn’t want to lose an arm and a leg to buy another toothbrush, so found this one on your website and decided it was a viable alternative. The vibrating action is more than my old one, but love it! Also love the 2 minute timer and 30 second interval stops.

Over this past weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend a wine tasting of “Old wines” – wines that were at least 20 years old. Naturally this means there’s going to be a lot of sediment in the wines, so I brought this along to help out. Received it as a Christmas gift from my sister, and wow, what a gift! The filter trapped all the sediment and any cork bits that happened to fall in while the bottles were being opened, leaving the wine beautifully clear. The funnel helped to give just that little bit of aeration needed to bring the wines back to life. By the end of the evening, a number of my friends were asking where I had gotten it so that they, too, could obtain it. Awesome. Just, awesome.

This is the best aerator/filter I’ve ever used, hands down. I don’t use this on my “big” reds, but rather on more delicate wines. The aeration is gentle, and the filter can be removed. It’s easy to wash and store, and worth every penny.
It also creates a picturesque “shower” if you don’t use the filter and allow the wine to flow freely through the aerator. This is a plus, especially if you’re entertaining guests that aren’t oenophiles. They’ll think you’re wicked cool.
